About Kurseong

Kurseong is a sub-district of Darjeeling. It was handed over to the British in 1835 by the King of Sikkim. It gained importance when the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (a world heritage) was extended to Kurseong in 1880. Kurseong in Lepcha means the “The Place of the White Orchid” and is blessed with a wide range of flora & fauna. It’s the true home of Darjeeling tea and boasts of the world famous Castleton, Makai Bari & Ambootia tea estates.
